SINGER-SONGWRITER
KIM RUFF
Stellar Awards-winning artist Kim Ruff is a singer, songwriter and producer who grew up singing under the influences of great songwriters and artists such as “Baby face”, Whitney Houston, and Be Be and Ce Ce Winans. She has always been drawn to beautiful voices and great music.
Anyone who has heard her sing has been blessed and asked her to sing again. Kim has been a songbird her entire life since the age of eight singing in her church choir, Solomon Tabernacle Baptist Church, Vidalia, Georgia. She was involved in music all through grade school and participated in the Show Choir at Vidalia Comprehensive High School. After graduating high school, she was surprised to be offered a music scholarship from Brewton Parker College, Mt. Vernon, GA. It was evident that God had anointed her early and all who heard her could see it. Not only was she named most talented senior superlative in High School, she was also named most talented in music both her sophomore and Junior years at Brewton Parker College.
While in High school Kim, her sister and a close friend formed a gospel group called the Mc Swain Trio. In 1988, she was crowned Miss Black Teen of Vidalia, Ga. She also debuted in the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” at the local Franklenia playhouse. Kim sang and traveled with the Mel Blount Youth Home Choir. While in college, Kim sang in the concert choir and Baron Road singers. She toured with the Baron Road Show to several high schools across the south region.
Kim once heard someone say that a singer never really reaches their full potential until they experience a broken heart. When her mother, the late Sarah Lane, lost her battle with breast cancer in 1998, God comforted her through her music. “My mother was indeed my biggest fan”. “She always encouraged me to reach for the stars! One day, she began singing a song she had never heard before and realized she had written it. Now, when she writes it is effortless. “I can literally write a song on the spot if needed.” I know that is truly a gift from my Lord and Savior”. Kim says, she knew she had to do more with her music, so she mustered up the nerve to go see a well respected radio announcer and shared her music. That announcer, Ms. Willie McClendon, is now her manager. Ms. McClendon encouraged Kim to make her dream a reality by completing a full CD project. This proved to stretch her potential as a recording artist and songwriter, thus birthing Kim’s debut CD “ Ready To Live” on which she wrote and co-produced each song . The CD is filled with music for everyone and focuses on inspiring the listener to find their destiny and realize their purpose in life. It also features her eight year old son, Spencer, singing Child of A King.
Kim has created a ministry for Victims of Domestic Violence, and has dedicated the song “Sometimes” to those who are victims of domestic violence.
In October 2007, Kim was a featured soloist in the Gospel Diva concert at the Tivoli Theatre. In April of 2008, she shared the stage with the princess of gospel, Stellar nominated Angela Spivey and Dove nominated group New Harvest. In July 2008, she did a joint concert with Stellar nominee Saxophonist, Mel Holder, Sean Simmonds and Grammy and Stellar Award winner, Pastor Donnie McClurkin.
Kim continues to sing at her church, New Life SDA Church, Chattanooga, TN, where she serves as Family Life Director, Couples Ministry Leader and sings on the Praise and Worship Team.
Kim was nominated for the 25th Annual Stellar Awards in two categories New Artist of the Year and Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year. Once all of the votes were tallied Kim won the Stellar Awards Fan Favorite Award for New Artist of The Year 2010.
